The Keystone State achieved a record-breaking gambling income in the 2021-22 fiscal year, generating a total of $5.04 billion (£4.19 billion/€4.92 billion) over the twelve-month period.

Pennsylvania’s gambling revenue reached a new peak in the 2021-22 fiscal year, with total revenue reaching $5.04 billion (£4.19 billion/€4.92 billion).

The state’s gambling income rose by 29.5% from the 2020-21 fiscal year, which was the state’s previous record at $3.87 billion.

Traditional gambling revenue accounted for the largest portion of total revenue during the year, with retail slot machine revenue increasing by 27.7% year-over-year to $2.41 billion, while table game revenue also saw a significant increase of 40.7% to $1.02 billion.

Sports betting revenue saw a slight increase of 2.2% to $315.8 million, although the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) did not release a breakdown of online and retail revenue for this market, nor did it disclose transaction details.

Valley Forge, in partnership with FanDuel, ranked first in the sports betting sector with revenue of $160.1 million, far ahead of Meadows’ Hollywood Casino’s Barstool Sportsbook ($52.5 million) and Penn National’s Hollywood Casino and DraftKings ($23.8 million).

Turning to online gambling, revenue reached $1.23 billion, an increase of 37.4% from the previous year. While the PGCB did not provide a full breakdown of this market, it did reveal that Penn National’s Hollywood Casino was leading the field with revenue of $481 million.

The overall earnings were a substantial $4,000,000.

The Rivers Casino in Philadelphia held the second position in the online gaming sector, generating $319.2 million in income, followed by the Valley Forge Casino Resort with an annual income of $221.8 million.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board also reported that video gaming terminal earnings rose by 32.7% to $41.6 million in the fiscal year, but fantasy sports earnings decreased by 3.1% to $27.3 million, the only segment in the Pennsylvania market to experience a year-over-year decline.

Meanwhile, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board also released figures for the final month of fiscal year 2021-22, with total market earnings reaching $389.8 million in June, a 0.24% increase from the same period last year, but a 13.0% decrease from $447.8 million in May 2022.

Retail slots were the primary source of income for the month, increasing by 5.5% year-over-year to $193 million. However, land-based table game earnings fell by 1.9% to $76.1 million.

Sports betting earnings dropped by 62.7% to $12.8 million, with online earnings at $11.4 million and retail earnings at $1.3 million. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board also noted that betting volume fell by 6.4% year-over-year to $393.5 million for the month.

Valley Forge and FanDuel led the market with $5.4 million in earnings and $158.2 million in total bets, ahead of Hollywood Casino and Barstool, which led with $1.9 million in earnings and $88.6 million in bets, and Hollywood Casino at Penn National and DraftKings, which led with $1.1 million in earnings and $24.2 million in bets.

In online gaming, earnings increased by 15.8% to $102.9 million, with online slots earnings at $72.3 million, internet table game earnings at $28 million, and online poker earnings at $2.6 million.

The Pennsylvania Hollywood Casino led the pack, bringing in $42 million in earnings. Next in line was Philadelphia’s Rivers Casino with $25.5 million, followed by the Valley Forge Casino Resort at $18.4 million.

Elsewhere, video gaming terminal earnings rose by 6.2% annually to $3.5 million, while fantasy sports contest revenue dipped by 20.4% to $1.5 million.
