Indiana Establishes New Sports Wagering Handle Benchmark in December
The state’s modified gross income for the month was $24.3 million, a 102.5% increase from $12 million in December 2019, but a decrease from the record $25.3 million in November 2020.
Participants placed a total of $313.1 million in bets, a 93.5% increase from the same month in 2019 and also a 24.5% increase from the monthly record of $251.4 million set in November.
The commission also observed that the state collected $2.3 million in taxes from sports wagering activity in December, more than twice the $1.1 million collected in December 2019.
Football was the most popular betting sport among consumers in the state, with a total of $101.8 million wagered in the month. Basketball followed in second place with $89.7 million in wagers, significantly ahead of baseball’s $19,923.
