Officials from China have officially apprehended three Australian Crown Resorts workers.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade verified that the Chinese administration “has taken into custody three Australian Crown personnel concerning accusations of gaming violations.” Among the apprehended Australians is Jason O’Connor, the Senior Vice President of Global VIP at Crown Resorts Ltd., whose position entailed enticing affluent Chinese nationals to wager at the company’s gaming establishments.

The staff members were originally detained on October 13th, and Chinese legislation permits authorities 37 days to file charges against those held. With that time limit expiring this weekend, a minimum of three of the detained Australians will stay in confinement for at least an additional two months.

These apprehensions occur amidst a widespread anti-graft initiative by the Chinese government under President Xi Jinping. This crackdown was ignited by instances where Chinese Communist Party representatives were discovered utilizing state resources to gamble at foreign casinos.

While it is unlawful to directly publicize and endorse casinos within mainland China, the increase in Chinese visitors at Crown’s Australian casinos might have attracted the notice of the Chinese government concerning their adherence to Chinese marketing regulations.

The Australian Financial Review further disclosed that an Australian compulsive gambler facilitator and 13 other China-based Crown personnel were purportedly also apprehended.

The results of the inquiry concerning the employee of the Monarch’s residence remain undisclosed. Should this matter proceed to trial, all details will be revealed. Law enforcement officials are currently conducting their investigation and will determine if legal action is warranted.
